I remember flying into Bali in 1985 on the way back from a year in Europe.
We found a guy outside the airport with a ute who took us to his cousin's losmen at Legian. I think we paid about 5000RP a night for a room with a shower and toilet in an outdoor courtyard replete with frangipani and palms.
As with Badak Sinting, breakfast was the standard banana jaffle and thermos of tea.
The next morning as I was performing my ritual ablutions, marvelling at how wonderous were the appointments of this magnificent outhouse with the sun filtering through the overhanging foliage and a warm breeze gently wafting in from the beach, when a huge rat dropped from the rafters right between my knees.
I nearly s.... Well, the point is moot as I was on the job anyway.
I still check out the roof before I commune with nature when I'm in
Bali and have a chuckle.
Heading there again in January - hope it's not raining rats ;o)
