We have friends you swear by the mandira - I have never stayed there - but on our last trip we knew 2 couples staying there - the rooms were quite different - the 1st one very ordinary, needed renovating but the second one was quite a bit better - roomier and brighter.
Personally I have stayed at kumala pantai as well - and to me the mandira was not as good. I don't mean to put you off - but the trouble is in that area there arent a lot of other family type hotels, although we have stayed twice at melasti beach resort and you cannot beat the size of the rooms for travelling with kids. For the price we would certainly return there - yes it is a bit older but everything was fine in our accomm, aircond worked well - larger bathroom than normal, comfy beds and clean. Suited us well and it was much cheaper than other options.
