Just arrived back today, and we went to Denpasar yesterday. Caught a Blue bird taxi from Melasti/Legian to Ramayana which cost Rp 20,000. After a couple of hours at Ramayana we crossed the street (Danger Will Robinson) and walked (to the right) down Diponogoro as there are a multitutde of shoe and bag shops, even better than in Ramayana (according to the ladies). We then caught a taxi to Matahari (Denpasar one) which cost about Rp 6,000. More shopping then a taxi home to Melasti Beach Resort which cost Rp 23,000, all up cost Rp 49,000.
Previously we had been using Bemos and negotiating a four hour trip at about Rp 100,000. The advantage of the Bemo is that you can keep putting your shopping in it instead of having to carry it around. Your choice, but actually I prefer the Bemos as I don't have to carry the shopping and the extra Rp 50,000 ($7:50 Aus) is worth it. I have always used a guy I found on this forum called IKetut Surya (?) who is excellent. You will find his phone number on the forum as I don't have it at hand.
