Good idea to do any shopping at matahari etc in the first week.
Their holidays seem to run from a couple of days before and then a few days after.
I would book your hotel as soon as you can, as a lot of the hotels are booked that week.
Definately try not to be caught in Kuta at closing time.i.e. 9.30pm
Also some of the smaller shops will be closed for a few days, even in Kuta. Geneva stayed open, but a few of the shops out the back of SEminyak were closed.
