On my first trip to Bali, about 15 years ago,I stayed at Puri Sariswati. There was an Australian girl working in reception there. She was doing "work experience" for the hotel/hospitality industry! Great placement!! Most of her college friends were at Hyatts/Hiltons etc in Sydney.
She took me to Nur,s salon!! What an experience! I had never known anything like it. Coming from a working class Lancashire background, i had never experienced pampering!! {Only mudpacks and a few rollers in the hair!]. Nurs was a simple Balinese place. But the treatment was out of this world. I was oiled. massaged, gently scrubbed, washed with yoghurt, massaged again,, and finally put into a huge bathtub filled with warm water and fresh flowers floating. I left floating!!
I have been many times to Bali, since then... and experienced other more upmarket spas and salons. But my experience of Nurs in Ubud will live forever in my book of firsts!
