You would find that all the places would be full of Indonesians all listing or dancing to the music and not buying drinks. This would make it uncomfortable for the tourists to dance and move about and would not be profitable for the owners of the clubs.
I experienced this in Malaysia where the wealthier young locals would
get to the clubs early, get a soft drink for their entrance fee and leave it on a table with an item of clothing on the seat. Then they would be on the dance floor all night. We couldn't get a table and or seat and there was no room on the dance floor.
I have taken friends who are Balinese, if you hold their hand as you walk past security they won't ask for payment.!!
