We have been to Bali a few times... we stayed at the Melasti last June/July. You cannot fault its position, the hotel is best suited for families. We were there in adjoining rooms in the new section - closest two rooms to the ring shaped pool on the ground floor. We stayed with my sister and her family and she was on the top floor at the other end of the pool and she preferred our rooms. They were fine for a 3.5 star hotel - we stayed in Club Bali Suites behind the Jakarta one other time and they were a little more upmarket than the Melasti. The kids had a ball at the Melasti, they could run around and act like the 8 and 10y olds that they are! The breakfast after two weeks was a little boring but you can walk along the beach to Bennys or Zanzibar if you want to. If you want a bit of luxury this is not the place, but it is certainly clean, and the staff were friendly, great value for monet but send you laundry over the road as the laundry at the Melasti did the worst job of all the hotels were have stayed in and in the end I took it over the road just opposite the entrance. We love Legian and Seminyak and would stay in the area again but I would try to find somewhere between upmarket and the Melasti for us next year.
