Yes, we did plenty of shopping even although we had been in Bali just a few months before.
R2U SHOP:
This time I managed to get to R2U, the floor to ceiling shoe shop which had been recommended on the Forum. I bought several pairs of shoes which are fixed price - 25,000rp for flat ones and 55,000rp for heeled, beaded ones. I am so pleased with the black heeled ones which I wore to a Melbourne Cup luncheon and a recent ball. No-one would ever know they only cost me about $8.40!
My daughter found some gorgeous butterfly and dragonfly brooches/hair adornments there for 3000rp each and I used some of them to decorate my Melb Cup Hat. Some have suction pads on them and they look cute on her bathroom mirror.
NATALIE SHOP:
Just opposite our hotel on the corner of Jalan Legian & Tunjung Makar. A fixed price ladies boutique with all sorts of lovely clothing and jewellery. Gorgeous beaded/sequinned skirts in chiffon with underskirt for 175,000rp and summer tops with frilled bodice for 110,000rp.We also bought a lovely antique "silver"/ red bead jewelled dragonfly hair piece here for 55,000rp. They had other pieces in different colours for around 55-80,000rp - worth a look.
GENEVA:
Still as good as ever, but disappointed that they no longer stock the lamp which I'd seen in June and was intending to buy this trip.Bought more beaded jewellery boxes, shell imbedded plates, table runners & frangipani candles.
TOKO CENTRAL BEAD SHOP:
We finally managed to visit this great little shop where my daughter bought many bags of beads for 2000-5000rp per 100 grams, depending on size etc.Similar beads are priced at $1.49 per 25 grams here in Perth. We'll be back there next July that's for sure!
BALI HARUM SHOP:
Although I didn't buy anything here, it's a great shop for buying giftware etc at fixed prices. Still cheaper than in Oz, but dearer than a market stall. The glass coasters with silver leaf inserts and edging are lovely (as recommended by several forumites), and I wish I'd bought some now for gifts. Oh well, there's always next year.
SANDRI COLLECTION:
I thought I'd check this shoe shop out as several people have talked about it, and they also make shoes to order.Whilst I didn't buy anything, they certainly stock some different shoe styles, and the prices were good at around 180,000rp less a 20% discount on offer at the time. I had hoped to walk up to Mustadhji Shoes which is a bit further along Jalan Legian, but I ran out of time on my last day.So another shop to go on my list for next trip.
ANIMALE FACTORY OUTLET:
I didn't go quite as "mad" as last trip, and in fact only bought the one dress in the end. It is quite a different style and material from their usual stuff, and was upmarket enough to wear to the Melb Cup Luncheon. It was from a "new" line called Medici Casual, and they sell some "One Offs" on a table at the front of the shop. They have now expanded on to a second floor, and there's a huge range to choose from. All items are heavily reduced in price, and the fact that the shop is airconditioned makes for pleasant shopping.
SECRET GARDEN SPA:
Yes, I finally had my hair cream bath, and was very relaxed at the end of the 1.5 hour experience. I thought the avocado cream actually stripped some of the colour out of my hair, but it left it soft and conditioned, although a bit hard to manage for a few days, and the price of 65,000rp was very reasonable.
EARLY MORNING MARKETS:
Being awake early most days, I decided to check out these local "wet" markets which are on the corner of Jl Legian & Melasti. I think I was the only westerner there, but was made to feel quite at ease, and everyone was friendly. It was a good photo opportunity, and I also bought a soft suedelike handbag there for 28,000rp. You can also buy food such as danish pastries and local desserts there, but I didn't try any.Couldn't get over how quiet deserted Legian Road is at 6am in the morning!
SILVER JEWELLERY:
My daughter bought many silver pendants and another silver choker. We found that the stall to the left of Bali Gong in Garlic Lane called DAGADA ( Ari & Alan) had very good prices, and we bought most of it from them.Mother of pearl pendants were about 35,000rp and the paua was a little dearer at 40-45,000rp.I also bought some from a couple of shops in Rum Jungle Rd and called into Dani Collection Shop and said "Hi" from Hilary and others on the BTF.Took his photo which I will take back for him next year.
BAGUS WATCHES:Outside Matahari in Kuta Sq, and further along the same road.
Many new styles since July, so we bought quite a few watches again this trip. Daughter loved the "Paul Frank" faced ones which were selling as fast as the stall holders replenished their stocks!(40,000rp). Another seller who had smaller version of the PF watch in brighter colours & where the face rotated around the dial was "BILLYS" Stall No 64 in the Kuta Art Markets. They cost 30,000rp from him.
MATO SHOP: 120 Jl Legian, near to Melasti st corner.
Look for a very different type of necklace stocked here, made from coconut shell with several wire-strands of beads across the square face of the pendant. I have only found it in this shop and his "sister" shop called "Bali Shop" in a Gang off Legian Road. Last year, we couldn't buy them for under 20,000rp, in July we paid 15,000, but this trip we managed to buy them for 10,000rp. They are quite unique and even other stall holders ask where we get them from.
ITALY BOUTIQUE:
Another shop which we finally made it to. Some great trendy European-designs here, but mainly in small sizes, which didn't fit my daughter unfortunately. Worth a look if you are a size 6 to a small 12.
SAMARCANDA: 363 Legian Road:Antique silver jewellery and silk items.
Previously mentioned on the BTF, but the shop wasn't named because the poster couldn't remember. Some beautiful pieces of jewellery with semi precious stones, not cheap by Bali standards, but probably better priced than in Oz. Worth a look if that's your thing.
FAST EDDY COLLECTION:
Had a couple of favourite Bali watches repaired here for 20,000rp each. Worthwhile if the style is no longer available and it's your fave watch. A bit hard to find, but worth the effort.
Well that just about wraps it up, but if I think of anything more shoppingwise, I'll add a PS. Any questions, just ask.
