I asked the travel agent to arrange a 30 day return and she made a mistake and booked a 31 day. By the time I realised the mistake, the airline bookings were so heavy that it couldn't be changed to exactly 30 days and I wasn't prepared to come back several days early. Under the circumstances she sorted it out and did the running around and we got 60 day visas stamped into our passports.

Cost AU$60 each and two passport photos [not necessarily the same as in your passport].
Time 3 working days, so involved 2 trips to the consulate [for the agent's courier].

A very easy form to fill in.

I don't know how you would go with a 30 visa, but a phone call to the consulate will get you the answer. Incidentally, I read yesterday that there are some possible changes being considered to VOA, one of them being extending the 30 day VOA to be valid for up to 60 days. Here's hoping! Who in their right mind would want to make it harder for tourists to stay longer and inevitably spend more?
