This wasn't a day cruise, but it may give you some ideas. We had booked a few a few days at Villa Wayan on Nusa Lembongan and had the large traditional style outrigger recommended to us. It left Sanur fairly early morning and was much cheaper than Bali Hai etc. The design seemed to cut smoothly through the water and no-one on board seemed to be having a bad time. My wife was prone to sea sickness and had no problems.
Coming back a few days later, the outrigger wasn't running that day, so we came back on one of the state-of-the-art Bali Hai ferries. It bounced and shuddered and my wife had a very uncomfortable trip.
