A Warning to any kiwis with lighters who are transiting in Brisbane. Last week I travelled home from Bali to Auckland with a transit stop in Brisbane on the way. I had brought 3 novelty lighters which I placed in my hand luggage. When we stopped in Brisbane we had to take all our hand luggage off the plane and it had to be scanned in Brisbane airport before we could enter the transit lounge. They picked up my lighters on the scanner and wanted to look at them. I showed them and they said I was only allowed to keep 1. I had my husband with me and they said he could also carry one but anything over and above that had to go. Friends of ours who came back a few days after us also had theirs confiscated, they had six and were only allowed to keep 2 (one each).
Next time I will keep the lighters in my suitcases so Australian customs wont have a chance to take them and I suggest that any kiwis bringing back more than 1 lighter do the same.
