I recently went to Bali with my mum and 2 sisters.. this is some of what mum had to say and I have added some notes!... (we all loved Bali and want to go back again and again, thank you to everyone from the forum who gave us so much valuable information. It was greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!! )
We stayed at the Bounty Hotel in Kuta rooms 608 & 606.. rooms were good and pool bar was great!!! Massages by the pool were 50 000 each for 1 hour! If you can.. give the ladies a tip (secretly) because they have to give a big percentage of the 50 000 to the Hotel!!
Our driver Koko (recommended on the Forum) drove us to Ubud and surrounding areas one day (market, monkey forest, lunch at Indus, stopped a a wood carving place and through villages and past beautiful rice paddies) then another day Koko took us shopping and to Tanah Lot (1/2 day – 150000 & full day 200 000) plus we tipped because he was unreal, lots of fun, talks good english and has loads of information. Koko's details are 08123619059 and email ko2dd@yahoo.com CONTACT HIM !!!! (did i mention he is cute aswell! But married and has a child!)
We ate at Indus (casa luna Ubud) expensive by Bali standard , cost 400 000 approx for 6 dishes of delish and perfectly presented food! (overlooking rice paddies).
Ate at Ketupat in Kuta (just down from Memorial Site) was about $100 AUD for 4 yum yum!!
We booked white water rafting through Koko as it worked out cheaper (250000 each incl pick up and drop off, lunch and all safety equipment gear). White water rafting was unbelievable.. .the most beautiful scenery and so much fun.. we even went down a 3 mt drop!!! Scary but we would do it again and again! I think the company was called Bali Rafting. In fact I would look at booking lots of things through Koko cause I reckon he would get everything at the best price. Remember to take money with you on the boat (they have water proof bags with them) because we stopped half way and there was a lady selling drinks at a gorgeous waterfall! We bought a photo at the end for 30 000.
Bagus Restaurant (Poppies 11) only cost about 80000rp for the 4 of us I think.
Check out Geneva for prices before paying too much on the street!!
Mades Warung near Geneva gorgeous Nasi Campur and only about 100000 rp for 4 (I think!!!)
Janoko Taylor in Paddys 11 (3 days to make stuff)
Sakura DVD's Kuta Square (buy 10 get 2 free – 10000 each),
Purita bag shop sells beautiful material and designed bags!!! We bought bags from 50 000 – 70 000 that I never saw again until we went to the airport and they were selling them there for 150 000. They are designed in groovy shapes and with really nice material. They also had some nice shoes (55 000) and 35000-45000 for cushion covers depending on size. (just off Paddys 11 – down a street that leads to the Leagian Markets),
We bought our bedspreads in Ubud for 750000 rp for 3. (gorgeous patchwork patterns & colourful)
Bought woven baskets for approx. 20000 rp each at Ubud markets
Sarongs at Ubud market - bought some really nice ones.
Will post more when it comes to mind and I have the time!!! This is only a little chunk of what we did so it could take a while!(Thanks mum I know you will read this!!! :-)
