We have been back from beautiful Bali for 21/2 weeks and I still can't get myself back into being at home mode. This is our 4th trip and our friends Jodie and Alan's first trip. We flew Australian Airlines (as usual) and had no problems. VOA, very quick through, no problems (being in the wheelchair probably helps). Kuta Lagoon Resort, gorgeous as usual. We found that the shopping this year was great, better quality t-shirts (billabong & quicksilver) and things we had never seen before (handbags and dressing gowns). I ordered 3 pairs of shoes from Matt at French Leather and Jodie had a jacket made. Shoes were excellent and copied from catalogues that I had taken with me, cost $25.00 each, jacket $100.00, cannot fault Matt's stuff at all.We went to House of Komang and my Matt ordered two pairs of work pants (same each year), I ordered a suit and extra pants, also ordered a shirt. Never used Komang before but will use her again, her quality is excellent. Matt's pants cost $30.00 and my stuff was about $170.00.We organised for a driver, Wayan Merta, for two days before we left Melbourne and he was fantastic. We were all so happy to meet him and enjoyed him so much, his English is excellent and his knowledge of Bali was very interesting, we feel as though we have made a new friend. Our first tour was to Taro, about 30mins north of Ubud to the Elephant Park. What can I say about that! It was fantastic; to be up that close to the elephants and have so much interaction with them was fantastic. I can highly recommend this place. Then we stopped in Ubud for a look around and then home. Our second tour was about five days later and we decided to take the newbies up to Bedugal, to Lake Beratan, we met a couple of friendly mongoose and Alan and Jodie had an up close encounter with a python. Next Wayan took us to a restaurant for lunch and we met a toucan like bird, which we all posed with for photos. Then off we went to Tabanan and to visit the monkeys there. A guide shows you around and keeps an eye on the monkeys, which are not nasty at all, finally it was off to Tanah Lot to see the temple at sunset but as it was very overcast and there was no sunset. We also had a driver take us to Benoa to do some jet skiing; the boys hired them for a half an hour for 320,000rp. Alan had a slight accident on his when the handle grip came off as he hit a wave and therefore he came off too. He really wasn't well when he came back to the beach as he had hit his butt on the jet ski. Later we found out after watching his butt for a week get bigger and more swollen and get blacker and blacker that he had torn his butt muscle in half and the fluid wasn't draining. He was actually lucky that the accident wasn't much worse, but he is such a trouper and hardly complained for the rest of the holiday, which was another full week, and suffered in almost silence when he could hardly sit down.We ate at all our favourite places:Ku De Ta in Seminyak, always fabulousPantai in TubanPoppies Indo National, lobster is really yummy and it was great to see Kerry and Milton.Aromas Café in Jl Legian, real coffee and yummy food.La Porchetta for many lunch's Starbuck's for iced coffee and cheesecakePuri Bali Indah in Melasti St. – best food and so cheap, we ate here many times.Macaroni in Jl Legian, great food, always busy and great ambianceBali Deli in Seminyak, this place is fantasticKopi Pot, worst meal of whole holiday and probably won't go back.We had many massages, foot rubs and facials at the hotel and we also had a couple of reflexology sessions at this heavenly place in Seminyak called Chi. This place is like stepping into heaven. I can highly recommend Chi to everyone. The prices are great and service is greater.Highlights of Bali this trip would be:Looking at Bali again for the first time through two newbies eyes and rediscovering this gorgeous island. The footpaths from the completed roadworks are much easier on my wheelchair and my wonderful husband.Spending time with Balinese friends new and old.Reflexology at Chi, wishing we had tried it earlier than the second week.Lowlights of this trip:Waiting for a whole year to go again.Anyway that's about it, sorry it is so long and hope you haven't been to bored. Happy to answer any questions.
