Let's hope the poem will bring a smile of happy memories to your face; or, perhaps a tear?

. Ah! Gentle Bali. We miss you and your subtly enslaving ways.
Sunlight lambent through the palms at dawn.
Rice-birds a-twitter in the house's eaves.
Slowly we rise, we stretch, we yawn,
Hear Nyoman raking last night's leaves.
With great delight each day we greet,
No troubles here to plague the mind.
No daily grind, just friends to meet,
Beach, shop or pub help us unwind.
Who could forget a million smiles?
Gold faces beaming, sharing joy
with Bule, we who fly those miles
To bask in gladness, girl or boy.
‘Tis sad that we can't linger long,
Our folks at home still drag us back.
The family and ties so strong,
The welcome home, the food, the craic.
The knockers bleat ‘why go back there,
The same old same old, year by year ?
You come back home to cupboard bare,
Then go again when plastic's clear'.
As usual our reply is bland.
‘Why not?' we answer with a smile.
‘Why don't you come and join our band ?
Come bask in smiles for just a while'.
