We too will be there in January. We have been before and yes it is the rainy season. It did rain but not for long but it is very very humid. As to bali belly, I have never had any problems. I tend to eat only Balinese/Asian food as I like to do the fully Bali thing i.e. not eat Westernised food when I have that at home. However as a rule I only tend to eat at good restaurants or ones we know i.e. where other people are. As long as you're careful about cleanliness and freshness of food i.e. don't have lettuce or old fish etc you should be fine. Its when you cut corners that you tend to become sick. But overall enjoy it you'll love it.
