on Jalan Wahid Hasyim. There is Ibis Arcadia, which Lonely planet lists as US$40 per night. There is also Ibis Tamarind, which I have stayed in. Lonely Planet lists it as 350,000rp per night, but I think it cost me 320,000 in July (double room). It was clean, the room was big enough, shower but no bath (everything worked), minibar, phone, fridge, aircon. The staff were pleasant. I can't remember if it had a pool or not. The restaurant had a good choice of meals, but I didn't eat there.
It's just around the corner from Jalan Jaksa, so there are plenty of bars in the area, and expats if you need familiar-looking faces around you. From the embassy, it's probably 2-3km. I won't estimate travelling time, coz things vary wildly, depending on traffic.
If you are looking for an even cheaper option, Hotel Margot in Jalan Jaksa is probably the best of the el-cheapos. For 140,000rp, you can get comfort, but not a lot of luxury. There's not a lot of space around the double bed. The bathroom has a simple shower, sink and toilet, but everything always worked while I was there. There is a TV with cable, but reception is often useless on many channels. Try to get a floor close to the ground, coz there's no elevator. But it's safe, clean and friendly, and very cheap. I couldn't find anything else in that area for the same price that had hot water and western toilets.
