Cliff I am afraid you are right. If anyone has spent time in Java they will have a completely different outlook on Indonesia. My wife and I went to Salatiga and attended the Intensive Course on bahasa Indonesia. It was an unbelievable experience, but you always felt that you were either treated with suspicion or they were laughing behind your back. The elite stata of society considered themselves so much better than us and would smile and use anything you had for their own ends. I am afraid the TNI is in this category.
