I have seen a number of different dances, but most of them are not really meaningful to me. One dance I really enjoyed was about a prince who was turned into a frog. [Does every culture have this kind of theme?] I saw this at the Tjampuhan Hotel in Ubud.
I'm always happy to go to a joged dance. This is where the female dancers, one at a time, invite men or women from the audience to get up and dance with them, just as a bit of fun. Sometimes the young local guys will try to get too close, but the dancer is always in control and knows how to put them in their place if necessary. I regard it as an honour to be invited to dance, but some people are shy and refuse. The whole thing is a lot of fun and none of us know what to do, we just enjoy ourselves.
