I have never been to Bali (going for 1st time in Dec) but was in Phuket in May this year.

Didnt stay at Patony Merlin but when we were on tours spoke to people who were. Apparently very nice outdoor pool area and good location to be close to Patong.

We stayed at Novotel (the other end of Patong) and really enjoyed the hotel.

3 Pools that waterfalled into each other. Staff were really lovely, bringing out treats during the day while you are sunbaking by the pool. Special little touches that made our stay beautiful.
