Is it possible that you have answered your own question?
The main (of many) Bali Boards has a positive view of the place, yet other destinations don't get the same kudos from regular travellers.
Maybe you'll get to see what many others do shortly ;-)
I've actually seen Bali slighted on many other boards. I kinda feel that if people don't like it....don't go there, not that hard really.
You'll soon get your choice. Look at all the options that come with it.
I for one though am certainly over the "I'm a traveller, not a tourist" type of people, as they generally end up prouder of their passport stamps than their stories.
Funnily enough, no matter how long you live, you can only be in one place at one time. Enjoy it.
