Driving to Amed via the coast road we saw groups of children on their way home from school. Instead of the usual shouts of 'Halo' they were all yelling out "pen, pen, pen!". When we arrived at Bayu Cottages we learned from Nengah and Anik that the school up in the mountains has 300 pupils but is very poorly resourced.
If you are passing through Amalapura on the way to Amed, you may want to help by buying exercise books or pens for these kids. There is a Hardys supermarket one street back from the main street and a small school supply shop called (I think) Sri Ratnah, shop number 79, about half way along the main street. There are ATMs either side if you need cash.
You can leave any donations at Bayu Cottages. If you can only get to Amalpura on your way out of Amed you could ask Nengah to pick up your gift from the shop next time he goes to town (which he did for us).
