The beaches in Amed are very stoney and rocky until you reach Lipah. This means that Bali beach house, Santai, Sunshine, Dancing Dragon, Wawa Wewe etc are not fronted by sandy beaches. The sandy beaches begin at Lipah, in front of Hidden Paradise, Coral View and Pondok Vienna. Bayu is not on the beach... but has lovely views and steps to the beach.
The next beach [also sandy... but not such good snorkling]is at Lean, where there is new accommodation called Life.
Just around another corner is the smaller but very lovely [also sandy] beach at Selang. Good Karma bungalows are here and Blue Moon Villa is raised above with gorgeous views and steps to the beach.
This is followed by another sandy beach and Reincarnasi bungalows.
The next beach is Banyuning/Ass where the beach is stoney but there is a small japanese shipwreck in shallow water which is great for snorkling. As yet there is no accommodation here, but there is a good restaurant The Pavillion, which also has a swimming pool.
Tides and seasons change the beaches... but usually the best places for snorkling, straight from the beach, are at Lipah and Selang beach.
I snorkled at Selang last month. It was wonderful. Soooo many fish, just 2 meters from the shore in shallow waters. More and more and bigger and bigger the further out I went. The coral was much more alive than one year ago
