Ok not being the best typist in the world this is 2 hrs of my life i won't get back. Just returned from our ( wife 2 kids 4 & 8 ) 10 days to Sanur . We stayed at the Paradise Plaza Hotel partly because we we're unsure what to expect so thought we,d play it safe 1st time. Flew from Adelaide on Garuda , no problems easy flight compared to trips we,ve made back to UK . VOA no problem probably 30 mins wait but spent time checking everything out. Wasn't accosted by porters just said no thanks and off they went. Enjoyed the drive to Sanur, heads spinninmg trying to take everything in. Hotel was great , huge rooms with ajoining room for kids. We reckon the garden view rooms would be better so you could sit out for a bit after lounging . With 2 kids it was a bit of a walk to the markets / resturants but at $ 1 a taxi not that much of a problem. The Paradise suites were great also , kids loved the pools there. Ok food , the resturants on the main street seemed to be having it hardest none really that busy. On the beach they we're all reasonably busy . I have no idea how busy Sanur used to be but talking to people it seeems to be picking up. Anyway ate at Mangos , Mataharis, Bonsai , Gazebo and others , not really a bad meal except Bonsai one night , the chef went a wee bit mad with the garlic. Done the Waterbom park thing which was really great though i got my only 4 mozzie bites of the trip here. Finally managed to get my boardies out me .... after Smashdown.. an hour later. Went white water rafting at Ubud with 8 yer old daughter , great day had . Went with Grand rafting or something , rafts not as new as Sobeks but looked like we were having as much fun. Wife and son 4 , went for an elephant ride at the place next door said it was good fun and a wee bit scary at times . Liked Ubud and plan to spend more time there next trip , oh yes i'm another Bali convert. Shopping - at one point daughter had bought a pair of shoes everyday and i was getting worried. Shopping in Sanur was ok, got all the usual , surfie ts, boardies , bloody wee monkey t-shirts everywhere, etc . Found more choice in Kuta , the girls bought up big in Surfer girl, and wife bought some really nice dresses in some of the boutiques. Went Ramayana in Denpsar - crap . Mataharis in Kuta was ok , now i do a bit running so am pretty cluey on prices of running shoes , in Foot Locker in Matas i saw the same pair of New Balance for approx $70 that i had paid $140 for in Adelaide 2 weeks earlier .They looked the real deal and would be interested to know if this is the case , i thought they would all be copies and didn't wait to buy apair when i got to Bali , guess who feels stupid now. They also had all the latest Asics around half price pay here. I'll be getting a pair next time though if they are the real thing. Anyway , daughter had hair braided 150 and 120 rups , probably too much but so what. Dvds from MR Shrek , Segara and Jennis so far so good , music cds not so good wouldn't bother . Found Tootsies a bit pushy but next door at Jennis the girls we're great . After we got a wee bit confident we bought at other stalls , the bartering is great fun and if we lost out by 5000 or so its only 80 c. It was good to try and buy at other stalls but you can't buy something in them all sadly. Bali belly- lets just say we didn't need any Metamucil during our trip. Took 2 immodium and i was ok, same with wife, kids no problems. We were dillegent with the Aquim gel for the first few days them as long as we washed hands fine. Over all view of Bali was it is indeed a paradise, the people had so much time for our kids, i thought the drivers were great, i see at least one crash a week here and loads of dented cars but no crashes , although i know there must be some, coming from the city with the worst drivers in the world i think casually tooting your horn is the way to go and will be doing it from now on. On Kuta , not my thing , done all that clubbing in Ibiza , Corfu ,Spain when i was young but to those that enjoy it great , it was good to shop and surf there. Sanur -great for a first time visit- great place if you have young kids and a meal and a few beers is now your thing. Thanks to all the formities whose information i used over the past few months especially Aussieangel as that price list was awesome. Any questions i'll be happy to answer and roll on Bali 2005
