- don't put all your eggs in one basket. Take a mixture of cash, plastic and TC's.
Why TC's which so many people disparage?
Simply because if you get robbed (Nah, it can't happen to me!) TC's are the only thing you can get replaced in a hurry - if at all.
The difference in exchange rate between cash and TC's is just a few cents which is about the cheapest insurance you can get for money anywhere. The only problem with them is that if you want to change them at PT Central or Kodak shops you will need to take your passport with you and that's a risk you can't insure against. The simple answer is to change them at wartels which are the government telephone shops. There are many of them and they only want to see a photo copy of your passport page. They use a computer to establish the current rate, give you a receipt and are unbelievably reliable and honest because their jobs depend on it.
