We upgraded to a Superior Room in June and were very pleased. Room was much bigger than Standard and all on ground floor - no stairs. The Bathroom was bigger too, although the basin area is not separated as in Standard. Cost us US$10 per nite to upgrade, which we did as soon after we checked in and decided we didn't like a very small room in the corner of the hotel (and overlooking where the staff park). The position was fantastic (Room 414). Near the front pool, almost in front of the massage ladies. We were a little concerned, at first, that it would be too noisy being so close to the front pool bar, but not at all. Oh, except for Friday night Buffet, when some young girls got up to sing Karioke - OMG the noise would've made all the Bali dogs howl.
We will definitely be booking a superior room for next year, but I intend on finding out if its cheaper to pre-book from Oz or just upgrade when we get there.
