I've been playing around with Freewebs for the last couple of days. Even set up two accounts using different e-mail addresses. In the past, I've used Geocities, Fortunecities(?), Tripod, and a bunch of other ones.

My first impressions of Freeweb is that it's not all that bad, for what it gives you (actually for "free"). Of course, all the little 'extras' we might want means signing up and paying for them.

Nevertheless, they give you 40MB up-front of storage (which is pretty good), and about 1,000 hits to your site a month...want or need more, you gotta pay. That's fair enough.

I am not exactly a virgin (so to speak) with designing and uploading stuff to free web-servers. Using Freeweb's "beginner's mode", I found it to be quite reasonable - but I'm sure many 'beginners' will still find it a bit confusing. Certain parts of its site don't work properly on my systems, mainly some of the "Help" sections, which I would have thought would be of paramount importance to beginners.

All in all, it's a decent offering (for free) - if someone has a better one, I'd like to know. I should add here that Freewebs is going to add several more features in the next month or two. So - be brave, and give it a try.
