- cooking school, already mentioned the one we did at casa luna, which was great. sammy's brother told us he can organise one too, with his aunty, about 45 mins drive from legian. will investigate next time!
- bike ride, we went on one organised at ubud - 'bali educational eco and educational cycling tour'. they have no website, and the email addy went thru the wash!!, but phone no. is 0818336580. it's owned by a melbourne guy, but is very ably run by a group of balinese guides. they'll pick up kuta etc also. we took all day, 7 - 6, from legian. cost was about $50, but it was a great day out, especially if you want an intro to local customs, buildings, crops, food etc. it was downhill for all of the 32km bikeride bit. we were well looked after with food and drinks on the way, with an amazing meal for late lunch. also visited a balinese house and temple.
- snorkelling/diving. ian dived at tulamben but stayed at lipah - better beach, mainly. he stayed at pondok vienna to start with, but a bit run down, so shifted to coral view. both, plus a couple of others are right on the beach, just a few steps to the water from the front of the hotels. snorkelling at lipah was straight off the beach, a bonus for me who really likes to feel the sand beneath her feet!
- massages etc. tried a few, and only one was on the painful side!! ranged from on the beach/in the room for 30,000-50,000, to a pricy 150,000 for a 2 hour mandi lulur at a ubud spa. well worth it, for the massage, scrub, soak in flower filled bath. also had a couple of cream hair baths, which were great- one was 30,000 on poppies 1, other 75,000 at ubud's zen spa. both equally good, but you obviously pay for the surroundings.
-clothes made. i had some made in ubud at wardani, in monkey forest road. did a great job, very prompt, it wasn't their fault that the sarong i provided for a dress shrunk the first time i washed it!! they had the best range of fabric in ubud too, plus heaps of gift items, and were more than happy to reduce prices for big spenders like me. also had a few things made at a tailor in legian. can't remember his name, maybe artha, but it was in jalan padma utara, just near the mbr. bambu corner restaurant was on the corner of a little lane heading away from the beach, the tailor was a few shops down on the left. he was most concerned that he still had a bag of stuff he'd made for 'david' from australia. wouldn't toss it, cos maybe he'd send someone to pick it up one day!!!
