Dreamland - we had the driver wait which cost 150000 rupiahs (we also went to Uluwatu), but there were other transport people available in the car park. Only trouble is, is that they know they can ask whatever they like because basically you are stuck there unless you agree to their price.
Re safety on the beach - befriend a group of hawkers (they tend to rove in packs) which means buy something from them, and talk to them. Ask them to look after your stuff when you swim - they will watch it for you like hawks and nobody would dare touch it!
I think you will be OK if you say you are American - just behave well with the people and they will be the same to you.
Scams - sometimes hawkers will call out 15 (or similar amount) - you presume they mean 15,000 rupiahs. You agree to the price and they say $15 (usually US) dollars.
