My son also wants to go to Bali next year for a few months, supposedly to brush up on his Indonesian but really to surf.
From what I have read here in the Forum, and checked through Indonesian visas, best he can do is 2 month visa.

We checked out a few cheap accomodation places for him when we were there last month, and chances are he may stay with a Balinese family we know, but would love to know how to contact your 3 million per month accom.
