Try the Aston at Tanjung Benoa. It's (almost) right next door to the new Conrad. Going by your description, it will be just what the doctor ordered!
Don't be put off by the fact that it's part of the Hawaiian chain. It is still "Bali" enough to be individual, and yet it has all the comforts and service of a 4*+.
You can still chill out, have happy hour at the swim-up bar. Or if you want just go across the road for a great selection of eats. or, take the free shuttle down to the Galleria and just walk back, having a drink or two at each of the big resorts on the way. Finally staggering back into the Aston (just in time for happy hour?).
We stayed there in 2002 and loved it.
