I think because we are so far away for the 'rest' of the world we do know our geography very well. Many many young ones these days travel abroad to Asian countries, Europe, the Americas.
I think Bali is often an eye opener and more extensive travel leads on. I know my 3 children have travelled to many many (read 30 or so) countries since there first trip to Bali in 1993.
