I nearly fell down a big hole when i was too interested in window shopping, you have to look on the footpaths & roads, especially on Legian street, we were there June/July and theres heaps of road works with big holes. Some or most arent really covered, only with one or two planks of wood with big gaps in them......so just be careful , especially if you have small children, they tend to run off sometimes... but as I say, your in Bali, thats the best part.... once you get use to them, it doesnt bother you....
