I flew AP recently. My hand luggage was 10kgs, and they said the limit was 7kgs. They let me on anyway. Now as far as your suitcases go, the charge is $7.80au per kilo over. I was slightly over(after much creative packing) only about 7kgs all up. No charge. I put wood stuff in backpacks I bought for the kids, which made our cases much lighter.
