I have been to Bali several times many years ago and I know about the scams to get a gold coin like "carry your bags" which they carry for about three fee and drop them.
To be perfectly honest, I don't mind giving these people a couple of gold coins. They obviously need them more than I do. Its just the price of a couple of cocktails after all and I guess my brain cells can do without them if it means helping someone who is needier than me.
The reason I asked was because it was I was buying the bracelets for a friend of mine and wanted to check before I went.
I have seen a couple of postings lately about how this forum is supposed to be where you can get help on things relating to Bali. It seems that some forumites take any oppotunity to show their friends on line how clever they can be by belittling newbies and all having a laugh about it at the newbies expense. Its a shame that it is spoiled for those of us who want to have some nice people to chat to about a place that we all hold so dear. It makes me feel like I don't have any right to ask a simple question.
