Given the power each and every Barong has, it is only multiplied as they gather. Moreover, as I have been taught, not all Barongs are compatible, even though they are the physical manifestation of a variety of Gods.
I can only imagine that this annual "gathering" of them is a very intense event to witness, maybe even more so than a Calonarang. Pak Badak, you've been around for a long time...have you ever been to "the Convention?" As I first posted, I hadn't ever heard of it before Cheza B asked about it. I sure want to go though...don't you?
Also to be understood, not all Balinese know themselves each and every aspect of their Hindu/Balinese culture. Frequently they too have to consult with a Mangku, Balion, holy man, or a high priest as to how to conduct a particular ceremony. Some of this is written down on ancient lontars, but good luck finding a Balinese prayer book! In other words, there are no Balinese equivalents to the Koran or Bible. Thus, one ceremony in one village can vary quite a lot from the same ceremony in another. It sure makes it interesting though, doesn't it?
