about visitors visas to Indonesia.
Yes, it is true that the current requirement for Australians (and residents of some other countries)wishing to visit Indonesia is that these visitors must pay for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) This visa costs US$25.00 and the fee can be paid either in US dollars (which seems to be the more accepted) or in Australian cash at the current rate of exchange offered at Nagur Rai.. or even by use of some credit cards we are told. This Visa is current for 30 days from date of arrival, so you must have LEFT indonesia by 12 NOON on the 30th day otherwise, you will probably be 'charged' a non receipted penalty for overstaying.. up to 700,000rp in a couple of cases, but usually 250,000rp. Now, if you wish to stay longer, firstly, you can apply for a 60 day Visa here in Australia before U leave. There are forms to complete, a fee of A$120.00 to pay, and the process takes about 3 or 4 working days. You should obtain full details from the Indonesian Embassy in your home State about this.
If you are already in Bali on the 30 day VOA, and wish to extend, then you can travel to an International Port such as Singapore, clear Immigration and then go back thru Immigration & catch the next available flight to Bali. As an alternative, there are many people in Bali who will be able to direct you to someone's cousin, who will be able to take your passport, get it stamped & returned to you in about 3 days.. for a fee of around 1,200,000rp. All the while, you stay happily in Bali. Just remember to have this organised about a week before the 30 day Visa expires!
As another option, you can apply here in Australia for a Social Visa, which requires a letter of sponsorship from an Indonesian National, plus proof of a return airline ticket, plus proof of funds to support yourself while in Indonesia. Remember.. all Visas require a minimum of (I think) 3 months validity on your passport after your scheduled date of departure.
How do we know?? Our daughter just about lives there!
