I run both Adaware and Spybot - together. What one misses the other one catches. They won't stop all pop-ups tho. If you must use Internet Explorer do a Google search for "Crazy Browser" a tiny add-on that provides tabbed browsing and pop-up security for IE. Otherwise look at Mozilla Firefox... more security than IE and you can switch pop-ups on/off for those sites that need them. All are free.
