When we took our then 17-month-old to Bali in May, we were also quite worried about the sleeping late etc... We were quite lucky... he was so tired after the airport loitering and plane ride that he went straight to sleep the first night... (not so the rest of the hols!)...
We chose to stay at the Jayakarta Hotel apts (Club Bali) as they are one-bedroom ones available ... there is a proper door separating the TV lounge / kitchen / dining area from the bedroom. So we said goodnight to him and shut the door most nights..... not much fuss... he doesn't normally see us at night even at home so we chose to do the same while in Bali... he got used to being in the strange place right quick... of course, we spent lots of quality time before bed, reading books, singing songs and cuddling....just so he felt secure in the new room. We also brought his own bedlinens from home.
