You need a sosial budaya visa, it will allow you to stay in Bali for up to 6 months at a time. Your Indonesian friend will need to provide you with a sponsor letter. Look up the Indonesian Consulate website for the full requirements. You can get a small house in the Legian area for around 25-30 mill rupiah a year, unsure of what you would pay for a shorter lease. As for setting up a business with your friend, you should seek help from a company like Arjuna Immigration or Bali IDE once you get to Bali.
