I have taken my two daughters to the monkey forests twice now. I am not sure of the name of the place, but we went to the one thats NOT in Ubud. It has markets around it, and has large bats as well. Most drivers will know the one, if you tell them. I had no problem with the monkeys there. Just don't eat bananas that day if you are worried. One jumped on the back of my 10 year old, but it wasn't trying to hurt her. They were looking forward to seeing the monkeys the most. Just make sure you use one of the many guides there, they keep cheeky monkeys at check.
Also, I would take something chewy for your kids on the plane, in case their ears won't equalise. Make sure you take Aquim gel to wash your hands with before eating. If they are little, take a cuddly toy, and maybe colouring stuff, but they will have heaps to do, and will probably spend most of their time at the hotel in the pool! Have a great time, and try and pack light, you will have heaps to bring back!!
