Thanks everyone for your kind comments. All I can say is that it makes me feel just as good as it does them and I would recommend it. Where I work there is about 30 people, so I am always making my special cakes and sell them, that's how I raise a fair bit of the money and for the clothing I ask everyone for their clothes that they no longer want. I look out at swap meets etc. too.
First of all BALI SANDY COTTAGES> Because my friend had met the Manager's wife, I think he looked after us quite a bit but I am sure you can negotiate a bit. We paid 175,000 rp per room which included 2 breakfasts - American or Indonesian, tea/coffee also. I have got lots of brochures here if anyone wants one - email me on
chapple@wn.com.au and I will post you one. I am not that crash hot on the computer so don't know if I can attach it but I could try. I did take some photos of the room so may be able to scan those, so those who are interested, let me know. I can't say if it would be that much fun for a 2 year old. All I can say is that the king rooms were huge, biggest I have ever stayed in. The staff were excellent. There was a little girl (about 4) there when we were there and the staff kept her occupied. The massage lady at the hotel is so lovely and friendly as are everyone, especially the girls in the restaurant and they also come to the pool bar in the afternoons. On the ground floor on the side that we stayed in were all double rooms, the twins were up a level and up again. I said I don't want to climb steps so I slept with my daughter in the king bed which was huge and we didn't even touch each other all night. That sounds scarey, but you know what I mean, plenty of room.!!
Have just found the Web address: www.balisandy.com
email address which I have got is: balisandy@hotmail.com
The picture of the room is just like that, the closed door is the huge bathroom and you can't see the table and 2 chairs that are on the other side of the bedroom. This picture does not do it justice really as the furniture is all new and quite nice.
JATI II ORPHANAGE: Address is Jl. Trengguli No. 80, Denpasar
Tel. 461781
I feel terribly sorry for these gorgeous children. The conditions there are horrific, kitchen, bathrooms, toilets disgusting. It seems the owner is focused on making the orphanage higher and higher where if he fixed up the kids toilets and the kitchen first, it would be better, so that is why I try to get them out for the day and give them a fabulous day and we did just that. I feel sorry for the boys as they are doing all the building and there is very little schooling. I don't think they really need clothing because we have left cases of clothing and we have found them stashed away not even touched and going mouldy. If you wanted to get them something, I would ask the owner Wayan what is needed, but I would not leave money. There is nowhere that I can see where they can play sport although he is trying to get a gym together, so that may be an idea.
If anybody wants to go there, you could ring our driver Ketut who comes with us all the time, knows where it is and translates to Wayan as he does not speak a lot of English and Wayan knows Ketut quite well now because of us.
Ketut: ketutsudirta@hotmail.com tel 0818561285
tell him Gwenda said to look after you and he will.
The bike that we got for our massage lady was not bought at Macro. We bought it at a bike shop in Kuta and I don't know the name of the street but I think it was the one that goes up from Bemo Corner away from the beach. Ketut our driver took us there and took the bike in his car as well.
If there are any more questions, don't hesitate to contact me on my email - don't forget to mention BTF in the subject
