I have always wondered about valuations, many of which are prefaced by the statement 'For Insurance Purposes', which tends to make you a little suspicious, given the premiums are based on the value!
Not that I am suggesting that your friend did not get a good deal, however if I were getting jewellery valued, having received the value, I would ask the Valuer the question, would you buy it from me at that price?
But there again I'm getting a little cynical in my old age, so if you find something you like buy it, who cares if it turns your finger green! {;o)
