We knew him too from when he was little more than a boy!!!He was always sleepy and we planned to give him some vitamins becuse I was sure he was sick but yes we met him this time in his own shop looking grown up and plumper, and awake, thank goodness!!!
Several of our old street hawker friends now lease small shops. Honest Alex, Arris, Ricky. I haven't seen Tony Locket for a while nor Darren, all in Padma area, has anyone else?
Most of them seem to come from Madura including my very best fried Jimmy Hendrix #1 on the beach at the back of Padma. He's hoping his uncle is about to help him to open a shop too.
It occurs to me that the young fellas from Madura, being Muslim, have more chance of saving enough to lease a shop than the Balinese. The Madurese only having to go home once a year, if trade is quiet, for Idul Fitri. Our Balinese friends as we all know are obliged to spend a considerable sum on ceremonies, and lose work time to attend. I think this leaves them rich in spirit, but poor in pocket.
