Similar for me last year. I told the customs guy, but he didn't care. I think it may depend on your attitude and whether or not the customs guy is having a nice day.
Just say "Selamat pagi [or siang or whatever], apa kabar?" and he'll think, "Oh God, another Aussie who thinks he can speak Indonesian!" and he'll be glad to see the back of you.
