I met some NZ-enders during my last trip.
It was their first time - they loved it. They were staying up at Hotel Tjumpuhan in Ubud. They were thinking about going to go across to Lombok, yet decided it would take too much time away from their time in Bali. I told them if they did go to Lombok not to travel up into the mountains as thre has been people kidnapped. You just have to pay some $ and you get them back.
As for NZ currency, this is just fine. You will have no trouble changing it at all sorts of money changes. Go to the Kodak shops as you dont get hassled while trying to change, plus they are honest.
We have not been up to candi dasa before, some people say it is boring, others like the seclusion and less shops. I think if you are wondering about getting someone to take you, it could be a good idea to organise it first. I can give you some details if you wish to e-mail me directly. It's up to you.
