We love Kumala Pantai and there is plenty of shopping but if you are looking to be close to Matahari and Kuta Sq. it's not. Melasti St and the markets there would be for us 15 mins along the beach road.
It is very close to Seminyak night life strip but not to the area around Paddy's or Bounty. It depends what you are looking for. All ages were staying there when we were there. I was going to say if you are the party party party age maybe it's not for you but then I remembered the slick Seminyak night life.
You know when it comes down to it you're going to enjoy it either way. Kumala Pt. is often booked out so that tells you something.
