Don't worry about the distance as there are shops and stalls pretty much all the way back to Kuta (could take you 2 hours to walk there if you are in & out of the shops) Kumala Pantai is in a fabulous position for shopping/beachside restaurants, I am sure you will enjoy it and if you really need to go to Kuta just jump in a cab.
