Hi I was in Yogja about 4weeks ago.we stayed at the Jayakarta Yogjakarta.It is a big hotel not far from the airport and on a VERY busy road.The hotel served its purpose for a few days stay but was nothing to get too excited about.Did not really see or hear about any smaller type hotels.
Beleive me Yogja is definately not as tourist friendly as Bali. I am not saying that the people arnt friendly etc but rather there isnt a cafe/restaurant on every corner,it is a noisey,dusty city which to be honest not a lot going for it.We did the tourist thiings such as Borobodor, Prambanan, Palace etc and I suggest on the way to Borobodor also stop in at Mendut Buddist Temple(quite impressive)
In a few days if you want to see the surrounding areas you have a lot of miles to cover.eg to Solo,Jepura,Dieng Plateua etc.I was surprised the travelling times and distance. Cheers Toni
