myself and two other ladies in front of me were made pay ( I had to pay for 5 kilos, they were originally asked to pay for 10 kilos, but were 25 kilos over).
We were both at airport early. The older ladies argued and negoitiated the manager down to 5 kilos , I wasnt game to argue ( figured the ladies may have stirred him up and I might end up having to pay for the whole lot!)
Once on plane there were a lot of others who were also over, but didnt get charged for excess luggage so go figure.
I did smile a lot ( but maybe not enough)
I did have two bags ( not one - did wonder whether that was part of the trick...stick to one overweight bag? rather than 2 ?)
It was my third trip - admittedly the worst in terms of excess luggage ( damn those quilts) but the only time I was hit for excess luggage so maybe it depends on that person whose checking you in and whether they are having a good day or not.
