The white cross is written on your hand luggage when you pass the x-ray machine after arriving in Bali...you then collect your suitcase/luggage off of the carousel and proceed to the last exit point before leaving the airport...it is here that the second set of customs agents look out for the white cross which indicates to them that you are breaching their customs laws in relation to illegal or excessive goods being brought into the country...I got pinged three years ago bringing 1.25 litres of grog into Bali...a white cross was put on my bag and I thought nothing of it but the second customs guy took me into a rather uncomfortable small room and I had to negotiate a price so I could leave....$15 Aus later I was on my way but felt sorry for an elderly lady who was being 'interrogated' over an excessive amount of perfume purchased at Duty Free.....the moral of the story is...abide by their custom laws and you won't get the white cross...hope this helps.....one litre only to be brought into Bali....
